Jilly was so livid, her body shook in vicious trembles. Scarred emotions escaped unleashed. A swirling helix of pent-up misery threatened to materialize into a dangerous, raging storm. Every blazing tear that trickled down her face burned hotter than Satan's unholy fire. It was one thing for Holly to be sick, but it was another for a man to treat her so indifferently because of his own daft stupidity.

Melted, slushy water splashed angrily beneath her every menacing step. Didn't that gorilla have a clue what scars from a dialysis shunt looked like? He was lucky she couldn't find him! But Jilly had made a promise, and boy, she aimed to keep it. Her mind kept tumbling in dark, warped circles, but she kept her focus ahead on every passing decorated shop window. The words Jenner Mortgage hit a personal nerve and stopped her mid-stride. The evil cackle that billowed from her lips was on purpose. Holly never mentioned how this jerk's presents were supposed to be delivered.

Stomping into the office, Jilly was going to make a delivery all right. She was going to bend Marcus over his ritzy, snob-hole desk and cram every one of these shiny, jolly gifts straight up his…

"Do you have an appointment?" asked the sweet, pudgy grandma greeting her from behind the desk.

Jilly cleared her throat. She was almost ashamed of the bodily depths she had previously considered plundering. "Marcus Jenner, please."

The woman's manicured finger whooshed a trail down her cursive-laden appointment book. "I'm sorry, but he isn't scheduled for any appointments this afternoon. I can ask if he's available to see you, Miss…"

She must have been hit by a bolt of invisible lightning, because Jilly felt a sudden bold empowering. Walking past the elderly woman, she marched right on down the hall, catching the gleam of the fancy gold name plaque fixed on a closed office door. Barging in on him would certainly make a grand entrance! Jilly turned the knob and the door swung open hard.

Granny was still chasing after her and grabbed a handful of Jilly's clothes. "Miss, please. If you'll only make an appointment, you can see him…"

"No! I really must see him now! Please let go of my shirt!" The door crashed against the wall with an awful wood-splintering slam.

His handsome head lifted from his bent concentration. The shock of his light amber stare almost caught Jilly's breath. Boy, Holly sure knew how to pick them. Oh, yes! This muscled warrior was quite a looker.

Wait! That's not why I'm here!

Marcus beat her to the punch. "May I help you?"

"Mr. Jenner, I tried to stop her! But she wouldn't schedule an appointment!"

The man's smile of mischief almost melted Jilly's heart.

Okay, not likely, but maybe just a little.

Marcus stood and extended his arm toward an empty chair before his desk. His liquid topaz gaze drifted from Jilly to his secretary. "It's okay, Lila. Please shut the door. I'll be happy to take care of Miss…"

"Jilly Hawkins."

Jilly didn't miss the single rise of one of his raven brows.
